I need you to do more than survive. As writers, as revolutionaries, tell the truth, your truth in your own way. Do not buy into their system of censorship, imagining that if you drop this character or hide that emotion, you can slide through their blockades. Do not eat your heart out in the hope of pleasing them.

—Dorothy Allison

I love this.

This is maybe the most important thing Mark taught me. This shapes my existence today. This is important.

I didn’t reblog this very long ago, but I needed to see it again.

If you’re not making mistakes, man, you’re not pushing yourself hard enough.

Chris Johns, editor, National Geographic Magazine

I’ve bookmarked this interview to read all the way through later, but this line jumped out and beat me on the head with a clue club and I needed that very much

I have never been a huge fan of TV and movies. Not because I don’t think they’re critical art forms, often brilliant, moving and inspiring. But because they’re like the crack version of stimulus. It’s like being used to fruit sugar and then mainlining high fructose corn syrup or something. Good TV and movies use up my head. They force out all the other stuff that’s in there, that needs the development space more, and fight for my attention. I hate being distracted from my own projects… seeing other art can be inspiring, but there comes a point where it’s so overwhelming that you can’t function anymore. Or at least, I can’t. For me, movies and TV hit that point more often, probably because of the combination of visuals, storytelling, music, etc.

MCA Hogarth being crazy-smart on story as a carrier wave.

I loved the whole post, but this part leapt out at me as an extraordinary recaptiulation regarding why I don’t watch television.

You can’t see me, but I’m flinging my arms in the air like a demented soccer fan, and flailing.

Ye gods and little buddhas, I am GOING TO BED.

Today has been…an ordeal.

But I’m going to try to break 30,000 words tonight.

I have done… *counts* …over six hours of Biology today.

I could have done more if I didn’t take a fresh-air break for kendo practice and hula-hooping, but that was Necessary For Vital Brain Function.

My companions were Area 11, Mother Mother, and Lady Gaga.  And my mother’s extremely loud home design shows.

HALP SOMEONE FIND MY BRAIN

If you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go lay down with a cold cloth on my face until I feel ready to face the Novel, because I am going to write some damn words tonight if it’s the last thing I do.

PART ONE IS FINISHED STOP

6000 WORDS TODAY STOP

I CAN’T FEEL MY HANDS STOP

that’s eighty pages

eighty

that’s a number

I am tired beyond the power of words to say, and I have absolutely no idea how to open the next scene since it’s one of the few not explicitly plotted in previous drafts, and I am so unbelievably excited to write more.

I thought I was broken.

Ha.

Ha ha.

HA.
